LRC to host fresh talks on GP-only medical card dispute

29/09/2005 - 08:28:43
The Irish Medical Organisation is due to enter fresh talks with health service employers today in an effort to resolve a dispute over the introduction of doctor-only medical cards.

The Government wants to introduced the cards for 200,000 low-income families, but the move has been delayed for almost a year already due to the objections of doctors.

The dispute centres on the fee that will be paid to GPs when people with doctor-only medical cards turn 70 and become entitled to full medical cards.

Today's talks are taking place under the auspices of the Labour Relations Commission.
