Circuit Court judge appointed new Abbey chairman
29/09/2005 - 12:26:13A Circuit Court judge has been appointed as the new chairman of the troubled Abbey Theatre in Dublin.
Co Kerry native Brian McMahon, the son of the late Abbey playwright Brian McMahon, has been appointed to the position for the next five years.
He will lead a new 11-member board that is due to take over the running of the theatre following a decision by its advisory council to dissolve itself last month.
The dissolution came amid a financial and managerial crisis sparked by losses of almost €2m in 2004.
