Firms accused of denying fuel surcharges to truckers

The Irish Road Haulage Association has criticised shipping companies for failing to increase their payments to truckers as a result of spiralling international oil prices.

The association said these companies had imposed fuel surcharges for shipping goods, but were not giving any of this increase to the truckers they hire to transport the goods to and from Irish ports.

The IRHA, which is seeking reductions in tax and duty on diesel, is due to meet the Taoiseach tomorrow to relay its concerns about the current oil crisis.
