Seven dead in suicide bomb blast

25/09/2005 - 10:08:27
A suicide car bomber struck an Interior Ministry onvoy in Baghdad today, killing five police commandos and two civilians, police said.

Six members of the elite police unit were wounded in the east Baghdad attack, said police Colonel Salam Abddelkarim.

The bomber hit the police patrol shortly after a bomb mounted on a bicycle killed one person and wounded 48 at a market in Hillah, a mixed Sunni-Shiite city about 60 miles south of Baghdad, according to Dr Mazen Abdul-Sada at Hillah General Hospital.

Ultraconservative religious figures have deemed some music on sale in the country offensive to their interpretation of Islam.

In February, a suicide car bomber targeted mostly Shiite police and National Guard recruits the city, killing 125 and wounding more than 140. Some of the dead and injured were at a nearby market.
