Sunderland earn rare Premiership win

Middlesbrough 0 Sunderland 2

Sunderland ended their dismal run without a Barclays Premiership victory at the 27th attempt with a famous derby victory at Middlesbrough.

Tommy Miller gave the visitors a dream start with a second-minute opener and a first three-point haul in the top flight since December 15, 2002 was sealed when Julio Arca curled home a superb free-kick on the hour.

The Black Cats were good value for their win, but goalkeeper Kelvin Davis had to make four excellent first-half saves from James Morrison, Aiyegbeni Yakubu and George Boateng twice.
