Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard came closest to breaking the deadlock in the lunch-time Premiership clash with Birmingham at St Andrews.
The England midfielder saw his 25-yard drive crash against a post with Birmingham keeper Maik Taylor well beaten in a first half of few clear-cut openings.
Birmingham’s best effort came from former Reds striker Emile Heskey whose close-range effort was blocked by Jose Reina.
