Bus Éireann drivers mount unofficial strike in Athlone

Bus Éireann drivers have mounted unofficial strike action in Athlone this morning to protest against overcrowding on their vehicles.

The drivers want the company to provide more buses on routes out of the town in order to alleviate this overcrowding.

Their unofficial action has caused major disruption to Bus Éireann's Athlone town services, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.

The company has warned that national services which pass through the town may also be affected.
