Intertoto Cup places increased
22/09/2005 - 10:53:04UEFA have decided to increase the number of places in the UEFA Cup available to Intertoto Cup participants from three to 11 in a bid to make the much reviled summer competition more competitive.
The switch is good news for Irish clubs who have generally enjoyed some success in the competition as it will give weaker countries a better chance to reach the UEFA Cup.
In the old competition format, clubs had to win five ties to qualify for the UEFA Cup that from next year onwards, there will be only three rounds to negotiate.
