Bago delights in Chantilly spin
Bago stepped up his preparations for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on Sunday week with an encouraging gallop at Chantilly.
Trainer Jonathan Pease was satisfied with the four-year-old’s performance as he was given a thorough workout ahead of the Group One race.
Bago took the mile-and-a-half showpiece in fine style last ear but he has failed to hit the target on his last three starts and has not raced since finishing third to Azamour in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes.
“He’s in good order and we are very happy with him,” said Alan Cooper, racing manager to owners, the Niarchos family.
“He did a nice piece of work on the racecourse gallops at Chantilly and I know that Jonathan Pease was very happy with him.
“This was a big step up from his normal work so it was quite an important morning.
“As always the Arc is going to be a very competitive race but he’s had a nice rest and we are hopeful.”
Bago, who won the Group One Prix Ganay on his seasonal bow in April, is currently a 9-1 chance with Coral to retain his Arc crown at Longchamp on October 2.
