Retailers may hike prices on battery-operated toys

Consumers have been warned to beware of price-hikes on toys and games in the run-up to Christmas.

Unknown to some, battery-operated toys are covered by a new directive for the recycling of electrical and electronic goods in Ireland.

This means shoppers could be paying extra in hidden costs.

Michael Kilcoyne from the Consumers Association said some retailers may take advantage: “Many stores, as we understand, are using the opportunity to bump up the prices. We believe that's not acceptable.”
