Dispute resolution body to discuss Irish Ferries jobs
22/09/2005 - 09:04:26The body set up to resolve disputes among the social partners is due to meet later today to discuss the jobs situation at Irish Ferries.
The company has announced plans to replace all workers on its Irish Sea routes with cheaper labour from abroad.
Irish Ferries has offered the 543 employees a voluntary redundancy package or the option of accepting lower pay and an erosion of their working conditions.
Unions are vehemently opposed to the plan and SIPTU has already served two weeks’ strike notice on the company.
The National Implementation Body includes representatives from the Government, the trade union movement and IBEC, which counts Irish Ferries among its members.
