McEniff denies Mayo approach

21/09/2005 - 02:33:29
Ex-Donegal manager Brian McEniff has poured cold water on the rumours that he has been invited to take the football reins in Mayo.

The Bundoran hotelier has insisted that he has had no contact with the Mayo County Board in relation to the position which John Maughan vacated last month.

“I've heard those stories, but there's no truth in them at all,” said McEniff.

“I've heard that I've been seen around Mayo, but the only times I've been there recently is to visit the hotel (in Westport).

“I'm only just back from holiday so I don't know when I would have had the time for these meetings I'm supposed to have had.”

High profile candidates Martin Carney and John O'Mahony both ruled themselves out of the running for the Mayo senior post last week.
