Report into Leas Cross death due next month

21/09/2005 - 08:08:29
A report into the death of a 60-year-old disabled man following a short stay at the controversial Leas Cross nursing home five years ago is due to be published in the coming weeks.

Peter McKenna, a ward of court who had Down's Syndrome and Alzheimer's Disease, was transferred to Leas Cross by the health board in October 2000.

He died 13 days later at Beaumont Hospital from blood poisoning.

Leas Cross closed earlier this year after a television documentary highlighted the mistreatment of residents by poorly trained staff.

The report into Mr McKenna's death was commissioned shortly afterwards.
