Partnership body to discuss Irish Ferries situation

21/09/2005 - 07:41:47
The National Implementation Body is due to meet tomorrow to discuss the situation at Irish Ferries.

The company wants to replace staff with cheaper labour from abroad and has offered the 543 workers on its Irish Sea routes a voluntary redundancy package.

It has also said that anyone who stays behind must accept lower pay and an erosion of their working conditions.

SIPTU has already served two weeks' strike notice on Irish Ferries as a result of the move.

The NIB, which consists of representatives from the Government, IBEC and ICTU, was set up to oversee the implementation of social partnership deals.
