Smullen banned after opening race at Listowel

20/09/2005 - 18:20:38
Pat Smullen was hit with a 10-day ban following the opening race at Listowel and will be out of action on days when there is Flat racing in Ireland.

He was found guilty of riding improperly by the local stewards following an incident involving Colm O'Donoghue inside the final furlong of the Ladbrokes Handicap.

Smullen, who currently leads the race for the jockeys’ championship in Ireland, said he felt he was “being tightened up for room” and would study the video of the race before deciding on any appeal.

His suspension will start on September 29.
