Lennon could face ban
Celtic captain Neil Lennon will appear in front of the Scottish Football Association’s disciplinary committee later today for his actions after the defeat to Rangers last month.
The midfielder’s aggressive confrontation with referee Stuart Dougal in the aftermath of their 3-1 defeat at Ibrox is set to earn him a lengthy ban.
He appeared to barge his chest into that of the official, while assistant referee Jim Lyon appeared to be pushed aside, before Lennon was eventually restrained by team-mate Paul Telfer.
Lennon publicly apologised for his actions, on Celtic’s official website, but the SFA have taken a hard line in the past.
They could use the punishment of Saulius Mikoliunas of Hearts as a precedent when examining the incident involving the Celtic skipper.
He received two red cards for barging assistant Andy Davis and swearing at referee Hugh Dallas in a match against Rangers last season.
Those actions earned the Lithuanian an eight-match ban, which was later reduced to six games following appeal, meaning Lennon could be facing a lengthy absence from action if the SFA take the same line.
