Truckers plan Dublin protest over high fuel prices
19/09/2005 - 07:36:37Truck drivers were due to mount a protest against high fuel prices this morning, with a slow-moving convoy due to leave Monaghan and Louth en route for Dublin.
The convoy was due to depart at around 6am with the aim of causing major traffic disruption in Dublin during the morning rush hour.
The truckers want the Government to reduce tax and excise duty on diesel in order to offset the rising price of oil on the international markets.
They claim diesel prices have increased by 40% so far this year, leaving many haulage businesses at risk of collapse.
