Sinn Féin says DUP must not be allowed hold up peace process
Sinn Féin has reiterated its demand that the Democratic Unionist Party not be allowed block progress in the peace process.
The republican party has already expressed concern that the DUP has no intention of pressing forward with moves to restore power-sharing government, even if the IRA honours its promise to disarm.
Media reports over the weekend said the DUP would be prepared to negotiate with Sinn Féin within months if a list of demands it presented to the British Government last week were met.
However, DUP MP Nigel Dodds said the reports were "fantasy".
Speaking about the matter this morning, Sinn Féin MP Martin McGuinness said Mr Dodds and his colleagues should not be allowed to hold up the peace process.
"If the DUP is unwilling to break out of its negative cycle and begin to show the positive leadership which the political process and also their own community require and deserve, then the two governments need to push ahead with the full implementation of the [Good Friday] Agreement," he said.
