Sheen sheds some light on marital woes
Charlie Sheen has hinted that one of the major reasons his marriage to Denise Richards hit turmoil was because he was too absorbed in watching sports to help her with parenting.
Richards filed for divorce in March after three years of marriage - just months before she gave birth to their second child Lola. But the Scary Movie 3 co-stars have since been working through their problems.
And during a visit to David Letterman's chat show on Thursday night, Sheen admitted that he was at fault in the situation, explaining: "It's the first time I got dumped in my life. I think the one thing I would point to as a primary reason, basically, is that I was a gigantic a*s.
"I had an epiphany later on what the sports highlight is for. The sports highlight is for parents, people that should be spending more time doing more important things. But it just bothered me when, I mean… who bathes in the ninth inning? Who bathes in the fourth quarter?
"I had to take a step back and really take a look at myself and the situation. I made a commitment to this woman that I love, this family that I love and I realised this can be fixed and it's okay to part the ego, to abandon self and just stay true to my commitment and be a man of my word.
"Things are really good. Today we have hope, we have a shot."
The couple, who wed in June 2002, are also the parents of 18month-old Sam.
