Three dead in Iraq drive-by shooting

16/09/2005 - 08:31:38
Three workers were killed and a dozen wounded in east Baghdad early today in a drive-by shooting by unidentified gunmen, police said.

The attack occurred at 7am in the New Baghdad district at a spot where labourers gather each morning looking for day jobs, said Lt. Col. Ahmed Abud, head of the local police station.

The attack followed a day of mayhem in the capital yesterday when suicide bombers killed at least 31 people in two attacks that targeted Iraqi police.

On Wednesday, more than a dozen bombings ripped through the city, killing 160 people and wounding 570. Many of the victims were day labourers lured by a suicide attacker posing as an employer.
