Tribunal whistleblower James Gogarty dies aged 88

16/09/2005 - 07:29:31
The whistleblower whose allegations against Ray Burke led to the establishment of the Planning Tribunal has reportedly died at the age of 88.

Reports this morning said James Gogarty died yesterday at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin after several years of declining health.

The Planning Tribunal was established after Mr Gogarty, a former executive at the building firm JMSE, revealed how he delivered a bribe to Mr Burke in 1989.

He later became the star witness at the tribunal, attracting large crowds to Dublin Castle to listen to his entertaining appearances.
