Talks taking place in effort to avert planned ESB strike
16/09/2005 - 11:55:39ESB management is meeting worker representatives today in an effort to avert strike action due to get underway on Monday.
More than 1,000 technicians working with the company have threatened to down tools due to a dispute about the role of outside contractors.
Their union, the ATGWU, has claimed that these contractors are effectively taking jobs from apprentices who serve their time with the ESB.
The planned strike action would not cause immediate disruption to ESB supplies, but blackouts are possible if the action continues as technicians would not be available to repair breakdowns.
