London bombs suspect to be extradited next week
A suspect in the failed July 21 London transport attacks will likely be extradited from Italy to Britain next week, his defence lawyer said today.
Antonietta Sonnessa said she expects Hamdi Issac – a British citizen also known as Osman Hussain who was arrested in Rome and is held in the city’s Rebibbia prison, will be transferred to Britain on “Tuesday or Wednesday.”
Earlier this week, Italy’s highest court upheld the extradition, which was ordered by a Rome court last month.
Issac was fighting the extradition and had appealed the court’s decision.
British authorities want to prosecute Issac for his alleged role in the attempted bombing at the Shepherd’s Bush subway station.
Nobody died in the four, near-simultaneous July 21 attacks, which followed two weeks after suicide bombings on London’s transport system killed 56 people, including the four bombers.
