Crokes to advance in Dublin championship
After almost four months of dispute, there is an end to the Mark Vaughan saga.
Vaughan's club Kilmacud Crokes earned a one-point victory over St Brigid's back in May in the first round of the Dublin SFC, with the young Dublin forward playing his part.
Brigid's launched an appeal as Vaughan, who was sent-off in Crokes' Leinster Club Championship defeat to Portlaoise last season, should have been suspended for the tie.
A lengthy dispute followed, but following a hearing last night it seems it is Crokes who have won the battle off the field, as well as on it.
A tribunal of the Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA) found last night that Vaughan was eligible to play for Kilmacud Crokes against St Brigid's on May 20 and the objection of St Brigid's was, accordingly, rejected.
Crokes now advance to meet Parnells in the Dublin SFC second round. The winners of that clash will face Thomas Davis in the quarter-final.
Vaughan still has a one-game championship suspension to serve. He will serve it next time Crokes represent Dublin in the provincial championship.
The south Dublin club had refused the offer of a replay from St Brigid's, without Vaughan, after the Leinster Council's decision to disqualify them from the Dublin championship was upheld by the Central Appeals Committee.
