Unionist leaders in talks with Northern Secretary

The leaders of the North's two main unionist parties are due to hold separate meetings with Northern Secretary Peter Hain today.

The talks follow a recent upsurge in loyalist violence throughout the North which culminated in three nights of serious rioting earlier this week.

Unionists have insisted that the violence was sparked by the perception that the peace process is damaing loyalist culture and only rewarding nationalists.

They have accused the British government of ignoring unionist concerns in its rush to ensure the IRA completes the process of decommissioning.
