Large-scale illegal dumping 'no longer taking place’
The Environmental Protection Agency has reportedly concluded that large-scale illegal dumping is no longer taking place in Ireland.
Reports this morning said an EPA study of the dumping situation had also found that the problem of illegal cross-border waste transports had reduced significantly in recent years.
The study lists 25 unauthorised dumps and 15 unauthorised waste-handling facilities, three of them operated by local councils.
However, this morning's reports said this list did not include massive illegal dumps that were authorised following their discovery, including those at the Ballast Pit in Co Kildare and Coolamadra in Co Wicklow.
The list also reportedly omits 18 unauthorised dumps that were condemned by the European Court of Justice and another seven that are still before the court.
