Govt vows action over illegal local authority waste centres
15/09/2005 - 11:51:17Minister for the Environment Dick Roche has vowed to take action against local authorities that operate illegal waste facilities.
An Environmental Protection Agency report on illegal dumping has identified three such facilities being run by South Dublin County Council, Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and Waterford City Council.
Asked about the matter this morning, Mr Roche said it was unacceptable and he vowed to take legal action if necessary.
"If the local authorities continue to fail to meet their legal obligations, there will be prosecutions," he said.
