Empey demands measures to address loyalist grievances
15/09/2005 - 12:40:05Ulster Unionist Party leader Reg Empey has demanded measures to address the grievances that have sparked an upsurge in loyalist violence in the North.
Speaking after a meeting with Northern Secretary Peter Hain today, Mr Empey said he condemned the violence, but added that the issues that caused it must be tackled.
He said he had invited Mr Hain to speak directly to loyalist communities about their grievances.
Unionists have claimed that the upsurge in violence is being caused by a perception that the peace process is damaging loyalist culture and rewarding republicans.
