Terror explosives suspect detained in the Netherlands

14/09/2005 - 11:41:21
Dutch authorities today said they had detained a man suspected of stealing explosives from an army depot to carry out a terrorist attack.

The man, 29, was detained last Tuesday on a military training ground in the southern province of Brabant and handed over to military police.

The suspect was dressed in army clothes, said a statement issued by prosecutors.
Investigators said they found a home-made fragmentation bomb, 45 military-issue thunder flashes – used for training to simulate a battlefield - and smoke bombs at his home.

“The explosives clearance squad described the improvised explosive as a potentially deadly fragmentation bomb.”
