Goal challenge a great success

14/09/2005 - 23:44:55
All-Ireland champions Cork won tonight's GOAL Challenge match at Pairc Ui Rinn, beating county champions Na Piarsaigh 14-04 to 10-08.

Charity was the real winner of a light-hearteed evening as local bookmakers Cashmans pledged €100 to GOAL for each goal scored.

A crowd of 3,500 was entertained by match commentator Micheal O'Muircheartaigh throughout, and Cork, who started all of their All-Ireland final line-up bar Ronan Curran and Niall McCarthy, led 8-03 to 3-06 at half-time.

Jerry O'Connor struck three of Cork's goals by that stage and the glut continued into a second half which saw both Sean Og O'hAilpin and John Gardiner don Na Piarsaigh colours.
