Hendrix home saved from demolition
Late rocker Jimi Hendrix's childhood home has finally been saved from demolition following a four year battle, after authorities agreed on a new location at the last minute.
The Seattle, Washington, house will be now moved to a site opposite the cemetery where the Purple Haze star was buried following his death in September 1971.
The James Marshall Hendrix Foundation bought the house for $30,000 (€24,000) in 2001, with plans to turn it into a centre offering music lessons, practice rooms and a lending library of musical instruments.
However, the property, which had faced demolition unless a new address was found, has sat on a temporary site while officials debated its future.
The Hendrix foundation and the City Of Seattle will now begin to renovate the crumbling house on a three acre (1.21 hectares) site they bought for $1.8m (€1.46m).
