IBEC warns of dangers to economy
14/09/2005 - 17:14:12IBEC today warned of dangers to the economy, despite news of record employment growth in Ireland.
The business and employers group said today's CSO figures masked serious problems in certain sectors.
The boom in employment is due mainly to the construction industry which IBEC pointed out could be unreliable in the long-term.
Economist Fergal O'Brien said Ireland needed more competition in the manufacturing sector.
"Small open economies such as Ireland rely very strongly on a strong manufacturing sector in order to maintain steady economic growth over time," he said.
