Eta 'to announce ceasefire in three months'
12/09/2005 - 09:47:59The armed Basque separatist group Eta is planning to declare cease-fire in three months, a Spanish newspaper reported today.
“The Spanish government and Eta have had indirect contacts whose objective is a declaration of a truce. According to the agreed, this announcement will take place in the next three months,” the Madrid daily newspaper El Mundo said quoting unnamed sources close the Spanish intelligence service.
No confirmation of the report, or official comment on it, was available.
Eta, known by a Basque-language acronym for Basque Homeland and Freedom, has killed more than 800 people since it began a campaign in the 1960s for an independent state.
