Survey finds women more educated about breast cancer
12/09/2005 - 08:14:49Irish women are more educated than ever about avoiding and detecting breast cancer, according to a survey conducted by the Irish Cancer Society.
The society said three-quarters of respondents to the questionnaire checked their breasts regularly, which is twice the number who said they did so in a similar study four years ago.
However, 90% of respondents said they believed a family history of breast cancer was the biggest risk factor in contracting the illness when in fact the greatest risk is posed by increasing age.
The new survey was conducted to mark the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness month today.
