Champagne Super Nova for Carroll
Irishman Adam Carroll scored his first GP2 win since May in a rain-shortened sprint race at Spa-Francorchamps today.
The Super Nova driver started on pole position courtesy of his eighth place in yesterday’s first race and held on during a handful of racing laps before several accidents triggered an early end.
A chaotic 11th lap saw Ernesto Viso spin out at high speed at Eau Rouge before Neel Jani and Hiroshi Yoshimoto tangled soon after, resulting in a huge accident and bringing out the safety car.
But with visibility virtually nil, drivers struggled to see the rescue vehicles even at reduced speed behind the safety car and the red flags were swiftly brought out.
Borja Garcia finished second with Scott Speed third. Nico Rosberg’s fourth place extended his championship lead, with closest challenger Heikki Kovalainen scoring no points for eighth.
