MI5 boss says civil liberties will be eroded in terror crackdown
10/09/2005 - 12:38:30The head of Britain's Intelligence Agency, the MI-5, is warning the war against terror will result in an erosion of civil rights.
Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller made her comments during a speech to Dutch intelligence officers in the Netherlands.
There has been much criticim of Tony Blair's crackdown on terror in the wake of the London bombings. New laws are being brought that will allow suspects to be held for up to a month without charge and for radical clerics to be deported.
Dame Eliza told a conference to mark the 60th anniversary of the Dutch Security Service that the world has changed and debate is needed.
