GAA: First final for Cork ladies

Team captain Juliette Murphy hit the winning point as Cork edged into their first ever All-Ireland senior ladies football final today.
Cork, first-time winners of the Munster and League titles already this year, beat the game's standard bearers Mayo, who were gunning for their sixth final appearance since 1999, on a 0-13 to 1-09 scoreline in Portlaoise.
Tommy Walsh's Mayo were 1-5 to 0-05 in front at the interval thanks to a 17th-minute goal from Cora Staunton and notable points from Emma Mullen, Staunton, and Christina and Marcella Heffernan.
Wind-assisted in the second half, Cork gradually reeled in that lead with substitute Valerie Mulcahy hitting four points.
Eamonn Ryan's Rebelettes hit the last three points of a pulsating semi-final. Mulcahy dinked over a free, Caoimhe Creedon then capatilized on a poor kick-out to square up the game at 0-12 to 1-9 and with twenty seconds left, Murphy swung over a right-footed winner that confirmed Cork's place in the October 2 decider.
