Slight hiccup for Roe
Vinnie Roe has suffered a slight setback just over a week before defending his Irish Field St Leger crown at the Curragh.
Although Dermot Weld’s charge has a remarkable fifth consecutive victory of the race in his sights, the seven-year-old’s preparations have been blighted after developing haematoma.
However, the Irish handler has played down the extent of the problem and is confident of a full recovery ahead of the Group One contest on September 17.
“The Irish St Leger is the next stop for him but I’ve one little problem with him as he’s got a little haematoma at the top of his quarter,” Weld told At The Races on Thursday.
“He obviously got cast in his box – it’s nothing more than that.
“I think it will dissolve and resolve in the next 24 hours and I think we should be okay for Irish St Leger.”
