October replay date set for hurlers

09/09/2005 - 00:19:53
Should Sunday's All-Ireland senior hurling final end in a draw then the replay will not be happen until October 2.

The GAA today confirmed the move which is a break from the traditional structure of playing a final replay seven days after the drawn game.

The Croke Park schedule is a little cluttered with the camogie final set for September 18 and the football finals being held at headquarters on September 25.

The GAA also confirmed that should Sunday's minor hurling final end level, the replay will take place on September 18 at a provincial venue which has yet to be decided upon.

The last time an All-Ireland senior hurling final was decided in October, and not September, was 1959 - when Waterford and Kilkenny squared up to each other. The Decies won 3-12 to 1-10 in the final replay on October 4.
