CIE considering use of environmentally friendly fuels
08/09/2005 - 12:04:14CIE is reportedly considering the use of biodiesel and hybrid engines in its buses due to spiralling international oil prices.
Reports this morning said company chairman John Lynch had ordered a study of such alternatives in an effort to reduce CIE's reliance on diesel.
Biodiesel is a mixture of regular diesel and vegetable oil which can be used in ordinary diesel engines without modification.
Hybrid engines, meanwhile, run on a combination of diesel and electricity.
Speaking in Dublin this morning, Minister for the Environment Dick Roche said he would welcome such a move, which he described as "a step in the right direction".
