Figures highlight Irish dependency on service sector jobs

New figures from the Government's economic think tank provide further evidence that Ireland is growing increasingly dependent on jobs in the services sector.

The Economic and Social Research Institute said the services sector had reported considerably higher job vacancy levels than the industrial sector during the second quarter of this year.

The percentage of firms in the industrial sector reporting vacancies fell to 12% in June, while the percentage in the services sector had increased to 17%.

The ESRI said the overall percentage of firms reporting vacancies during the second quarter of the year had increased from 10% in March to 12% in June.

It also said employers were more optimistic about future employment levels in June than they were in March.
