File close to completion in Dun Laoghaire baby death case
Gardaí have told an inquest in Co Dublin that they are close to completing their renewed investigation into the death of a baby girl whose body was found in Dun Laoghaire 32 years ago.
The investigation was launched after a woman came forward claiming to be the mother of the girl found dumped in a lane in the town in 1973.
The woman, who was a young teenager at the time, claimed her mother stabbed the baby to death with a knitting needle immediately after her birth.
She also claimed a second child she had a result of sexual abuse by her father was killed and buried in the garden of the family home in Dalkey, but a search earlier this year failed to uncover any remains.
At the inquest into the death of the Dun Laoghaire baby today, Gardaí said a file on the case was close to completion and would be handed to the DPP within a month or so.
The inquest was subsequently adjourned until February 1 next year.
