DUP criticises decision to maintain parade restrictions

07/09/2005 - 08:14:02
The Democratic Unionist Party has criticised the Parades Commission's decision to ban a loyalist march from entering a Catholic area in Belfast this weekend.

The annual Orange Order Whiterock parade was originally due to go ahead in June, but was cancelled after the commission re-routed it away from the nationalist Springfield Road.

There are fears that loyalists could use the decision to engage in further street violence like that seen in Belfast over recent weeks.

DUP leader Ian Paisley has accused the Parades Commission of bowing to Sinn Fein and coming down against law-abiding citizens.
