Benchmarking is a scam: ISME

Employer’s group ISME has described benchmarking as one of the greatest scams ever foisted on the Irish people.

The criticism comes after Central Statistic Office figures highlighted that public sector wage increases are running at three times the level of inflation.

The average public sector income is now 43% above the average industrial wage.

Mark Fielding of the Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association (ISME) said claims that recruitment was proving difficult in the civil service are nonsense.

“It was never a problem to recruit into the civil service and why would it be? You have a job for life, you've an indexed pension and there's no way that you can be got rid of so it's a nice, easy number.”
