Vietnam to vaccinate 2.3 million children against polio

Vietnam plans to vaccinate nearly 2.3 million children against polio, following an outbreak in Indonesia that has infected more than 200 people.

Vietnamese children under five years old living in border provinces and selected villages, which are considered high-risk areas, will be immunised with a locally produced oral vaccine in November and again in December, the Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper quoted Do Sy Hien, director of the national vaccination program, as saying.

The communist country routinely vaccinates all children under one year of age, but health officials decided to conduct the forthcoming campaign to ensure that no one was missed in remote rural areas and along the country’s borders, according to an official at the vaccination program.
