Valley's back in business
Three Valleys scored his first Graded win in America as he lifted the $338,000 (€269,260) Del Mar Breeders’ Cup Handicap.
The four-year-old, who was trained by Roger Charlton, was one of the top juveniles in Britain two years ago when winning the Coventry Stakes and the Middle Park Stakes – although he was subsequently disqualified from the latter after testing positive for a banned substance.
Three Valleys disappointed in his two British starts last year prompting owner Khalid Abdullah to switch him to the care of Bobby Frankel.
The Diesis colt bounced back to his best in the Grade Two at Del Mar, coming with a late flourish after settling off the pace to beat We All Love Aleyna by a neck in the mile contest under Patrick Valenzuela.
Three Valleys also set a new course record and Frankel believes the best is yet to come.
He told www.thoroughbredtimes.com: “It just shows how versatile a horse he is. He can come from way far back or he can lay up on a very fast pace.
“I don’t think you’ve seen the best of this horse.”
