Tipperary's only ever football All-star Declan Browne has hailed his side's Tommy Murphy Cup win as "a huge boost" for the county.

The Tipp captain, who played a pivotal role in yesterday's defeat of Wexford at Croke Park, admitted: ""It’s a huge boost for Tipperary football.

"The backroom team and manager Seamus McCarthy deserve great credit for sticking with us. They got their reward today and hopefully they will be with us next year.

"Let’s hope this will give Tipperary football something positive to build upon for the National League in the new year."

Premier boss McCarthy paid tribute to Browne, who hit 1-7 and laid on Tipp's other two goals.

"Declan has been doing it for us for the past seven years," McCarthy said of the Moyle Rovers forward.

"He turned it on in the second half when the game looked like slipping away. His goal was crucial, it came at a time when we were experiencing a difficult spell. He is a super man."
