Bush arrives in Louisiana as Ireland prepares aid
05/09/2005 - 18:16:57President Bush has arrived in Louisiana on his second tour of the shattered Gulf Coast.
He is in the state capital Baton Rouge, to where many hurricane survivors have fled.
Mr Bush is facing a storm of criticism over his handling of the disaster while aid efforts in response to Katrina are being co-ordinated around the world.
Ireland is on stand-by to send expert and practical assistance to the devastated region.
Irish defence forces may send 3,000 ready-to-eat ration-packed meals, a tented village to house hundreds of people, water purification amenities and engineers to help in disease control and reconstruction.
The European Commission is co-ordinating the EU response and has requested member states to provide inventories of what help they can offer.
