Pope calls for an end to violence in Iraq

Pope Benedict has called for civil and religious leaders to unite and bring an end to the violence in Iraq.

His comments came after more than 800 people were killed in a stampede on a Baghdad bridge yesterday.

The Pope sent his condolences to the families of the victims, and said it was time to create "a climate of reconciliation" in Iraq.
