McGeeney earns orchard recall

01/09/2005 - 08:10:54
Fit-again captain Kieran McGeeney has returned to the Armagh side, as expected, for Sunday's All-Ireland SFC semi-final against Tyrone at Croke Park.

The Na Fianna clubman sat out the 2-17 to 1-11 quarter-final win over Laois 11 days ago, but comes back in as one of two changes in the Orchard county line-up.

Manager Joe Kernan picked from a full-strength squad last night with McGeeney and Ballyhegan forward Paddy McKeever the changes for what is the sides' third meeting of the 2005 championship.

McKeever's inclusion is somewhat surprising given the consistent performances of the man he displaces, John McEntee, at centre half-forward.

McGeeney's return sees Enda McNulty dropped from the XV, while Aidan O'Rourke, the player who deputised for McGeeney at centre half-back against the midlanders, moves to the flank.

Tyrone will confirm their team tonight.

ARMAGH (SFC v Tyrone): P Hearty; A Mallon, F Bellew, C McKeever; A Kernan, K McGeeney (Capt), A O'Rourke; P Loughran, P McGrane; M O'Rourke, P McKeever, O McConville; S McDonnell, R Clarke, B Mallon.
